William , it was really nothing is my fave Smiths track, remember buying this charming man the day after hearing it on Peel's show. Shame when they split, and I expected more from Johnnie Marr, apart from his stint with The The, what else did he do?

Love this one too - in fact, I could fill this whole thread with Smiths tunes. The Queen is Dead is one of my favourite albums of all time.
Marr worked with Billy Bragg and Kirsty MacColl (she's another of my icons) for a while, no idea what he's doing now although I heard something the other day which was unmistakably Marr with the jangly guitars so he must be still doing the rounds.
Embedding vids goes like this
Open the 'reply' not the 'quick reply' box which appears beneath a post On the far right theres an icon that looks like a piece of film? Click on that, paste your link in there, click ok and send and Big Bob's yer uncle

So might say it's a bit embarrassing but I hadan ambition to turn One nation under a groove into a song that Evertonians could sing, that and Redemption song.
Hairs still stand up on my neck when I listen to one nation, not many songs do that for me, Love will tear us apart, Song to the Siren and Cico Buff (Elizabeth Fraser from Cocteau Twins
) and Ocean to Ocean by Magic Juan Atkins
I'll leave you a production of the magic one's work that you will know, most have never heard of him......

Nope I've never heard of him but your link doesnt work so I still cant hear him - fail!
One Nation still sounds as fresh and new today as it did when I first heard it - shame you didnt get the Everton chant off the ground :)
Funk is my first love I suppose so here's a bit more (shame about the vid ... )
Snoop Dogg stole the hook from this - seems like I'm forever telling my son that the 'new' song he currently loves is something today's no-hopers stole from the masters of yesteryear
(I sound like me dar now  )

The Family!!!! Prince's little side project! I remember my uncle had the LP. I love that song. Though Prince is an egomaniac as he tried to get the singer to sing like him. In all honesty if Prince could physically play every instrument at the same time, he would. I saw Prince at the O2 and the man is a genius. Would of seen him again if anyone else would go with me. What's your fav album? I like the self titled one and also Parade.

dorf mate, you sound like my kind of feller ;)
I went to the O2 last year too - the man is just immense. It pisses me off that people tend to write him off as 'that short, weird, effeminate dude' - he is nothing short of a musical genius imho. I think that was the 5th time I've seen him. We were going to do the 3121 thing in Vegas but it turned out he wasnt guaranteed to turn up to every show so it seemed a long way to go to see his band ....
I like all the earlier albums (I'm 'old skool' ;) ) - not mad about his 'Symbol' period, I think he'd lost the plot a bit by then. And I really like 3121 although it got a critical pasting really, not mad about Planet Earth though.
The Family were too short lived and underrated - their version of Nothing Compares 2U is second only to Prince's own version, which I've only ever heard him play live at Maine Rd in about 92 I think. I;ve got some connections to the lead singer of The Family now (long story!) so I've heard one or two stories about how wacky Prince is right from the horses mouth :laff:
What about The Time? Some great musicians in that band although I always thought they suffered from the 'comedy' aspect of Morris Day's leadership - still worth a listen though as collectively they may be one of the coolest bands on the planet ....

You certainly know your music! That's a tune! I love Jungle Love too. But this has to me favourite. It's got Prince written all over it. You like Jesse Johnson and Ready for the World too? I'm sure jimmy jam and terry lewis were in the time. They did a lot of good producing especially on Janet Jackson's 1st album and 80s soul groups Change and SOS band.

Music and footy - what else is there? ;)
Yes, Jam and Lewis were in The Time as were Jerome Benton, Monte Moir etc. I went to Minneapolis a couple of years ago and saw the lead singer of The Family play solo, Jellybean did a bit of a jam session too. They also formed a group called The Truth - all the ex Prince musos - and Prince turned up to their gig, I almost passed out. He swanned in wearing a headscarf hung out for a bit then left - was hoping he'd join them onstage but no. I'm going to put on Parade full blast now and get my fella and kids out of bed :laff:
